Say Goodbye to Google Q&A (and Hello to AI Answers)

What Your Business Needs to Know

Well folks, it’s official,Google has retired the Q&A section on Google Business Profiles. That friendly little box where customers could ask, “Are you dog-friendly?” or “Do you have vegan cupcakes?” is no more. But before you panic and start mourning the loss of yet another platform feature you actually used (unlike Google+), let’s talk about what’s replacing it,and what you should be doing about it right now.

What Happened to GBP Q&A?

As of November 3, 2025, Google pulled the plug on the traditional Q&A feature and its API. That means:
  • You can’t add or answer Q&As on your Google Business Profile anymore.
  • Third-party tools can’t manage it either.
  • Your old Q&As? Gone.
In its place, Google launched Ask Maps, an AI-powered feature that uses its Gemini model to answer customer questions in real-time,based on what it already knows about your business.

What Is Ask Maps?

Imagine a potential customer opens Google Maps, clicks on your business, and types in, “Is this place wheelchair accessible?” Instead of seeing a list of past Q&As, they’ll now get an instant answer, generated by AI. Ask Maps pulls from your:
  • Google Business Profile
  • Website
  • Online reviews
  • Citations (like Yelp, TripAdvisor, etc.)
If you’ve got great info out there, Gemini (Google’s AI) will use it to give users helpful answers. If your online presence is vague, outdated, or sparse… Gemini might just shrug and say, “There’s not enough information about this place.” Not great.

Why It Matters for Local Businesses

This is about way more than just a feature update. It’s about how Google understands and represents your business moving forward. With Ask Maps and AI-powered search results on the rise, Google isn’t waiting for you to speak,it’s doing the talking for you. And trust me, you want to control that conversation.

Here’s What to Do Right Now

If you want to stay visible, and credible,in this AI-driven search world, here’s how to get ahead of the game:
  • ✅ Add FAQs to Your WebsiteIf you used to have answers in your GBP Q&A, move them to a clearly labeled FAQ page on your site. This gives AI the structured content it loves and helps your site rank in both search and Ask Maps.
  • ✅ Use Schema MarkupThink of schema as the subtitles for your website,it's how AI reads your content fluently. Use schema.org markup (especially FAQPage, LocalBusiness, and Service types) to help Gemini extract accurate info.
  • ✅ Beef Up Your GBPYour Google Business Profile is still the MVP of local visibility. Make sure your business description, services, photos, and posts are up to date. Add everything you'd want a potential customer to know, because Gemini is watching.
  • ✅ Be Consistent Across the WebYour citations matter more than ever. Yelp, TripAdvisor, Trustpilot, they all feed Gemini’s understanding of your business. Keep your Name, Address, and Phone (NAP) consistent everywhere.
  • ✅ Collect & Respond to ReviewsReviews don’t just build trust, they teach the AI about your business. Gemini uses them to summarize your strengths and weaknesses in Ask Maps. So the more high-quality, detailed reviews you have, the better.
